Elementary Counseling Home

counseling headerWelcome to the website for the Elementary Counseling Program at Madison Academy in Madison, Alabama! Rachel Gross has the joy of working with students through classroom guidance lessons, small group counseling, and individual counseling. She also collaborates with school staff and parents to best meet the needs of students. Things are looking a little different these days as we are all learning and working from home. Resources for students, parents, and teachers will be updated to reflect the needs of our current situation. Check back often for updated content! Thanks for stopping by!

Classroom Guidance Lessons

Rachel visits each classroom weekly throughout the school year and has the chance to interact with every student during these lessons. Lessons typically last 30 minutes and cover topics such as school readiness skills, understanding feelings of self and others, problem-solving skills, friendship skills, and study skills.

Individual Counseling

Some students can benefit from one-on-one counseling regarding academic, social, or emotional challenges. If the issues are not resolving after a few visits, it may be recommended that the student seeks an outside professional for more support. Small Group Counseling

Mrs. Gross offers a variety of small group sessions to students who may benefit from spending some extra time developing academic, social, or emotional skills along with their peers, and to students who are coping with similar life situations. Groups can have anywhere from 3-12 members and usually meet once a week during lunch for several weeks.
