    STATE BOUND!!!

Posted by Phil Snell on May 13, 2012 @ 9:52 AM

The Lady Mustang softball team has made it to the state tournament by placing 2nd in the Super Regionals this weekend at the Sportsplex in Huntsville.  After winning their first game Friday night over Lauderdale County, the Lady Mustangs fell in a heartbreaker to eventual champion Pisgah 4-3.  The Lady Mustangs had to fight their way back from the losers bracket on Saturday, beating Sardis, West Morgan, and Colbert County to face Pisgah again in the championship.  With several of the starters bruised and battered from playing 3 straight games, and wearing ice packs, the coaching staff gave valuable experience to the young reserves in the championship game.  It was a highly emotional day for the team and the fans!

MA Softball hosted Elkmont on Monday, March 12th.  The Varsity Lady Mustangs outslugged Elkmont 16-9 behind Brandi Foreman's 2 hits, 3 rbi's, including a big homerun off the light tower.  Katie Clark got the win with 5 innings of work including 6 K's.  In middle school action, behind Aubrey Bates on the mound with 8 k's and allowing only 2 hits, the Mustangs took the night cap in a 3-1 victory.  The Mustangs' Sadie Rucker scored first following a Molly Kiel sacrifice.  In the 4th inning, Bates would have a rbi double that would score Taylor Trach.  A Hadley Watson single would drive in Jessica Holt to provide a late insurance run.

The JV softball team played 5 games on Saturday and came away with the championship trophy.  With Friday being rained out, play started early Saturday morning.  The JV team started out slowly, losing their first 2 games in close contests (Madison County and Fyffe).  However, they bounced back strong, beating Brindlee Mountain twice and then revenging the earlier loss to Fyffe in the championship game.

    Softball Action

Posted by Phil Snell on February 29, 2012 @ 2:28 PM

There has been a lot of softball action since the season began on Friday, February 24th.  First off, the Varsity team played their opening season games in the Trojan Classic.  After a rocky start on a cold, windy Friday night, the girls came together on Saturday to win 2 out of 3 games to go 2 and 3 for the tournament.  The girls faced stiff competition from Florence (L), Hartselle (L), Walker Co. (W), Huntsville (L), and Sheffield (W).

On Monday night, the Middle School got into the action against Falkville at home.    The young team lost the first game 6-0, but came back strong in the second game with some timely hitting to win 6-4.

Tuesday night, all the teams travelled up to Brindlee Mountain to play in the drizzling rain.  In a very muddy field, the Varsity girls opened the night with a dominant 16-1 (3-3) performance, followed by the JV team posting a win in their first game of the season with a score of 11-2 (1-0).  The Middle School girls won the night cap 12-0 (2-1).

The next game for the softball program is a Middle School game Thursday, March 1st at home against the New Hope Indians.

    Softball Work Day

Posted by Phil Snell on February 15, 2012 @ 1:44 PM

There will be a softball work day this Saturday Feb. 18th from 9 - 12:00. The Coaches want to get the wind screen up and do a litlle painting, so if you have paint brushes bring them. The field looks great we just need to do a few minor things. Please contact Coach Patterson with any questions.

Also, if you didn't turn in an Ad for the Spring Progam but want to there is still time. If you can get it to Holly Johnson by Monday ready to go (page put together), she can still get it in.

We plan on taking pictures next Tuesday Feb. 21st on the field. JV/Varsity will be around 3:00. Middle School needs to come to the field right after school and hopefully we can start their pictures by 3:45.
