WHAT IS LAMA?
The Ladies Association of Madison Academy, or LAMA, is a group of ladies who share a desire to make a positive difference in our children’s education. We are made up of mothers, grandmothers, and friends of the school who work together to provide services and educational improvements for our children. LAMA fosters a spirit of friendship among the women who are interested in the development of spiritual values through Christian education.LAMA holds regular monthly meetings on the first Thursday of each month at noon in the LAMA house on our campus. Decisions are discussed at regular meetings and voted upon by the general membership. Annual membership dues are $10.00 or you may choose to become a lifetime member through a one-time donation of $100.00. Your membership allows you to be as active as your schedule will allow.
Through the support of our fundraisers, LAMA has been able to provide many needed items for the school. Just a few of the items include laptops for teachers, classroom items for the Junior and Senior High Schools, new chairs for the chorus room, special events for the children and faculty, money to provide school supplies for each teacher, and special textbooks for advanced placement classes. LAMA is happy to provide funds to send teachers to seminars, classes and workshops that further enhance their teaching abilities. In addition, LAMA organizes assistance to teachers with various tasks throughout the school year. The first Saturday in November will be the 36th Southern Tradition Market Place. This annual event raises over $50,000 for our school in one day! In December LAMA volunteers provide a Santa Shop for students who can do their Christmas shopping with a limited budget. We also have an ornament exchange and brunch for our members to relax and visit after all of that hard work!As we begin the downhill run to the end of the school year, LAMA sponsors three events: a Valentine’s Dessert Buffet for the faculty and staff in February, a spring plant sale fundraiser in April, and Teacher Appreciation Day in May.If you are interested in becoming a member of LAMA, we would LOVE to have you! Please feel free to contact our president, Deborah Bailey, at 256-679-2404 if you have any questions.
