8th Annual Spaghetti Supper

Spring Musical - Back to the 80s

 

The 8th annual Band Spaghetti Dinner is on Thursday, January 21st.  We will start selling tickets this week (I will send out more details as soon as I get the tickets ready to pass out to the students).  We need volunteers to work in the kitchen, on the serving line, and on the clean-up detail.  If you are able to help with the Spaghetti Dinner, please send me an e-mail at lcrews@macademy.org.

There are no special events scheduled this week in the Band department.  I will send three separate e-mails later today reminding everyone of a few events coming up this semester, and of some after-school activities that will be starting soon.  Below is a basic calendar for this semester:

Thursday, January 21st - Spaghetti Dinner, 5:00 - 7:30pm, MA Cafeteria
February 5th-6th - Faulkner Honor Band, schedule TBA
March 1st-31st - Band Candy Bar sale
March 4th-6th - Spring Musical, "Back to the 80's"
March 12th - Solo and Ensemble Festival registration deadline ($5 per event)
April 10th - Solo and Ensemble Festival #1, Liberty MS, schedule TBA
April 8th-12th - Fine Arts department New York trip
April 24th - Solo and Ensemble Festival #2, Hartselle HS, schedule TBA
May 11th - Spring Band Concert, 7pm, Upper Gym

The only event on the calendar that is required for all the band students is the Spring Concert.  I will be sending out more information about the Solo and Ensemble Festival at a later date (it is an optional performance opportunity for all band students 6th-12th grade).  If you have any questions, please e-mail me at lcrews@macademy.org or call me at school (256-971-1624) or on my cellphone (256-655-8123).  Please note that my home phone (721-9192) is no longer in service, so if you need to talk to me directly just call me on my cellphone (please leave a message if I don't answer immediately, I'll call you back as soon as I can).  Thanks, and have a great week!

The Spring Musical is a joint effort of the Fine Arts Department here at Madison Academy.  This year's musical is "Back to the 80's", and features popular music from the 1980s.  The cast has been selected, and has already had a couple of rehearsals.  Now, we need musicians for the "pit" orchestra.  The instruments we have parts for are:  Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and Drumset.  I have the music books in the band room if your student is interested in looking over the parts (it is High School level music).  After-school rehearsals will start next week.  If your student is interested, they need to be able to commit to one after-school reherarsal per week from now until March, the three Dress Rehearsals on March 1st-3rd, and the three performances on March 4th-6th.  Please e-mail me at lcrews@macademy.org if your student is interested in participating in the Spring Musical, or if you know of another student that is not in the band program that might be qualified to participate.
