Here are the results from the marching contest at Phil Campbell.  There
were 6 bands in our class, and 17 band overall. An 80 and above is a
"Superior" rating.

Drum Major - 93 (2nd in class, tied for 7th overall)
Color Guard - 90 (1st in class, tied for 10th overall)
Percussion - 85 (4th in class, 11th overall)
Band - 88, 90, 94 for an overall 90.67 (2nd in class, 8th overall, High
General Effect score)

The Band score of 90.67 is one of the highest scores ever earned by the
Madison Academy Marching Band!  The Color Guard received the "Best in
Class" trophy!  The band judge that gave us a 94 had us tied for 3rd place
overall!  This is the first Madison Academy Marching Band to earn Superior
ratings at two contests in the same marching season!

I am VERY happy with the students and all of the hard work they did this
year!  Their dedication to excellence has been evident in their
performances this year!  Thank you to all of the parents who travelled
with us and cheered for us in the stands, and helped us load and unload
all of the equipment!

And a big "THANK YOU" to everyone for a wonderful marching season!  We
still have a few football games and parades left, but now we can relax and
have fun!

Here are the results of the Muscle Shoals Marching Contest.  There were 7 bands in our class, and 37 bands overall.  An 80 or above is a "Superior" rating.

Drum Major - 84 (3rd in class, 23rd overall)
Color Guard - 82 (4th in class, 19th overall)
Percussion - 78 (5th in class, 32nd overall)
Band - 73, 76, 81, 89, 91 for an overall 82 (2nd in class, 22nd overall)

Overall, I am VERY pleased with the results!  Those are VERY good scores, considering the fact we went 1st at the contest, and we were the smallest band!  The band judges who scored us low took off points for balance and intonation (when I talked to the students after they performed, those were two things they mentioned that they had trouble with).  All of the judges tapes were very helpful, with a lot of good suggestions for improvements.

And by the way, we missed 1st place in our class by .03 points (Sylvania scored an 82.03)!  When I told the students, that got them all fired up! If we can come that close to "best in class" after all the distractions from the past two weeks, imagine what we can do with a full week of rehearsals!

Go Mustang Band!!
