DISCOVER® is used beginning in the 9th grade to expose young students to various careers and colleges/universities. It provides the guidance office with the necessary information to help students make important educational decisions.
It's researched based assessments of career relevant interests, abilities, and values enable students to begin their own career search.
It offers a complete up-to-date database of occupations, majors, schools, and various training institutions, financial aid/scholarships, and military options.
It enables students to prepare resumes, cover letters, job applications and interviewing skills.
• Beginning in the ninth grade, freshmen will complete three inventories and summarize their information by completing a worksheet. Students will receive a grade (via the Guidance Office) that will go toward their 1st quarter English grade.
• In the tenth grade, sophomores will research careers/occupations in their English course and write a paper. This is delivered orally in the Speech/Communication class.
• In the eleventh grade, juniors will write an college essay and produce a college resume. This is to prepare them for colleges that require entrance essays and resumes. Students will receive a grade (via the Guidance Office) that will go toward their 4th quarter English grade.
